About Me

I love designing jewelry. I think about it. I dream it. I see a design from various angles. I see its potential. Yet, the ultimte joy is holding it in my hands once its finished.

THE BIG BLUE AND YOU

First let me begin by saying "Hello" to all my followers!  I know I have been slacking on the "blog front!"  Rest assured I haven't forgotten my duties!  It's just that there are so many! Lol!  That teaches me to complain when I used to have a day-time job.  Now I have a day-time, evening, night, and middle of the night job!  But, although I can't deny I am very anxious, I am also very excited!

Now, on to the subject at hand: "The Big Blue and You!"
Aaaah yes!  The mere mention of the big blue, brings to mind tantalizing pictures of beautiful tuquoise beaches, powder -fine sand, warm sunny skies!  The fact is we can all assimlate and enjoy the aesthetic value such a picture provides.  However, isn't it true that beauty entails maintenance and conservation?

The Folks at The Big Blue and You are aware of this.  And what's more, they have undertaken the ardous task of enligtening all of us, and our children.  It's a great no-for-for-profit organization that is endeavoring to educate children on how to conserve water and become aware of world wide issues regarding this same precious resource.  Please be sure to check out their website: http://www.thebigblueandyou.com/

They are also hosting an event, free of charge at:

The Miami Science Museum, on Friday September 24th, at 6:30 pm.  RSVP: Michelle at onewaterworshop@miamiworld.org.  Or call 954-558-9664.
During this event they will also be screening the documentary "One Water." So please be sure to bring your little ones, as there will also be exciting exhibits and complimentary refreshments!

VIERNES CULTURAL NETWORKING EVENT AT CASA MARIN IN HIALEAH

Well, I woke up this morning (9/3/10) with the wonderful news that a local restaurant was hosting a social/cultural event tonight.

The restaurant, Casa Marin (located at 4195 Palm Avenue) is a traditional Cuban Restaurant, specializing in traiditional flavorful Cuban dishes. It has the peculiarity of hosting a social / cultural event on the first Friday of every month, and this event is proclaimed in various latin radio stations heard on the AM band. Such stations include La Poderosa, and Radio Paz.

The event, known by its followers as "Viernes Cultural," features guest entertainers / singers, singing songs from Cuba's golden era. Some of those singers were: Rita Maria Rivero, and Tania, as well as new local talent Jennifer (who's last name unfortunately I did not catch). In addition to this, a local painter was also present showcasing his works, most of which depicted the rustic Cuban Country-side scenery, which every exhiled cuban still cherishes and longs for. However, he left before I could inquire his name, for the benefit of all my readers.

All of those in attendance to showcase their art demonstrated uncanny talent, and I wish them great success in all their endeavors.

I think I may very well appoint myself as their monthly blogger.

As for me, I set up my little table strategically located next to the front door, and the little carry out order window. This was very beneficial, as I was able to hand out my cards and speak a little bit about my designs and materials to those entering and leaving. Also, because I must force myself to whittle away at my inherent reticence. At first I thought I would have a hard time selling anything, but as the evening progressed many admirers inquired about my pieces and pricing.

Then, a young man stopped by to admire some of my pieces, and to inform me that he would bring by his girlfriend later in the evening. True to his word, his young lady came by and liked my pieces. In the end, they purchased 5 of my pieces in total (2 necklaces, 3 rings (yay!!!)), and she kept my card, promising to get in touch with me. Here is one of the pieces she purchased. Sadly, I did not have time to photograph the other necklace she purchased. But it was a rather splendid piece made from green glass beads, combined with gold and burgundy beads. Really stricking.

As with everything, all good things must come to an end. For now. I will say this: I plan to return. The more people I meet, the greater my chances of incrementing my business.

Thanks,

Discover Women NETWORKING SERIES 9/2/10

It went ok. I met a few interesting people, was able to discuss a little bit of what I do. I got a free interview, and the opportunity to discuss my business.  The interview is to be posted sometime next week. I'll add the weblink and video when they have it ready. I was generally very nervous during the interview, so I do not think it was great. I had a little difficulty breaking ice - due to my inherent shyness, but the statement necklace I designed for this event received much attention, and was a great help in that department - so all was not lost!

Part of the reason I was a little out of circle is that the person who was supposed to go with me (ahem, if you're reading this)  abandoned ship Wednesday night. I went with my mother, who fixes up nicely, but speaks no English... so she couldn't be much help, other than to showcase another bold statement necklace. Here's a couple of pictures --of myself -- my mother's camera shy! If I decide to go again when they host this again, I think it may go better, since I already met some of the people.  Other faces will be familiar, so I can approach them with much more ease.

In the meantime, I am open to suggestions and tips to improve my networking skills!

Thanks,

SURF AND SAND ASYMMETRICAL NECKLACE

I had originally planned to use these beads each in a completely different necklace. However, as it often happens, while I was trying to catch some sleep I came up with a completely new and exciting design, which ultimately made me a lot happier. I know that bib statement necklaces are all the thing now. But not everyone is bold enough to use them. This piece, however, has the potential to convert all those who prefer to stay on the "safe" side of fashion.

Here is some additional information about it.

Surf and Sand Aqua and Brown Agate Semi Precious Chunky Asymmetrical Chain [Statement] Necklace... (Phew!)

Make a spectacular statement with this dramatic Surf and Sand Asymmetrical Piece.

NECKLACE LENGTH: 19" TO CLASP
CHAIN: PEWTER AND ANTIQUE GOLD LINKS
CLASP: ANTIQUE GOLD HOOK
WIRE WRAPPED BEADS
AQUA AGATE BEADS: 30MM
BROWN AGATE BEADS: DIFFERENT LENGTHS BETWEEN 60MM X 30MM - 75MM X 35MM

This necklace can be purchased at http://www.etsy.com/shop/allurejewelsbycc. Price includes shipping within the U.S.

If you are outside the U.S., but would still like to purchase it, shipping will be $10.00, plus custom duties and taxes payable by you.

You may wonder why I named it Surf and Sand. When you look at those light colored agate beads, you can't help but picturing a foamy shoreline... And the dark toned odd shaped agate beads reminded me of wet sand. The design almost looks like the ocean crashing into an inlet. I guess I am in a somehwat poetic mood. But there are other necklaces I've named.

Thanks!
